Location
For those who understand and appreciate the 2000 year old history of the Catholic Church they will be pleased to know that they are less than a 10 minute walk from St Peter’s Basilica originally dating from the 4th century and built over the bones of St Peter, the first pope, and overlooked by the Papal Palaces where the current pope lives. St Peter’s is one of the most impressive and magnificent buildings in the world and houses a myriad of priceless works of art and articles of impressive historic and religious significance including Michelangelo’s famous ‘Pieta’ and the mystical pillars of the master-sculptor Bernini. The Vatican is also home to the Vatican Museums where guests can marvel at works of Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Fra Angelico, Giotto, Raphael and at Michelangelo’s breathtakingly beautiful and theologically rich frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. Even closer than this is the Papal fortress of the Castel Sant’ Angelo crowned with a giant statue of the Archangel St Michael and adorned on the footbridge leading to it with even more sculptures of Bernini.
Only a short walk from Campo dei Fiori
For those guests with a more secular outlook, they will be pleased to learn that the Relais Group Palace Hotel is also only a short walk from Campo di Fiori and also the famous and vibrant Piazza Navona, subject of so many stories from the ‘Grand Tours’ of the European gentry and a place bustling and bursting with typical Italian art and culture. Guests are recommended to enjoy a glass of ice cold vino in one of the many restaurant courtyards that surround the Piazza and simply watch the world go by. From there guests can stroll in a matter of minutes to the Church of St Louis of France to see the masterpieces of Caravaggio, and on a little further to the ancient and mind-boggling dome of the Pantheon. Only 50 meters from here is the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva – one of the most beautiful churches in Rome and which houses the body of St Catherine the Great.
Restaurants, Cafes
Guests are then immersed in the quaint and winding streets and avenues of ancient Rome with it’s shops, restaurants, cafes and ice-cream parlours and which serve as an interesting backdrop to a short walk to the nearby romantic Trevi Fountain – most breathtaking at night when it is lit in soft and complimenting light.
After a hard days shopping and sight seeing, guests can rest safe in the knowledge that the four star Relais Group Palace Hotel is only a short distance away and offers a haven of tranquility and comfort in which to relax and recuperate after the overload of culture, art and beauty one experiences daily on the streets of Rome.
